CLIMODE was endorsed and supported by the Atlantic Implementation Panel under the US Science Steering Committee for US CLIVAR . It is a part of an internationel program for the study of Climate Variability and Predictability. Thus far, it is one of the first medium-large process studies expected to emerge for US CLIVAR.

Principal support for CLIMODE comes from the Physical Oceanography program under the Ocean Sciences Division of the Geosciences Directorate at the National Science Foundation. The cognizant program manager is Dr. Eric Itsweire.

Support for some CLIMODE infrastructure is provided by the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution.
