CLIMODE-I Update 16 November 2005 2030Z Greetings from the warm and sunny North Atlantic. We continue to enjoy unusually pleasant weather on R/V Oceanus: Sunburn was a much greater concern than seasickness during yesterday's mooring operation. Mooring "D" was deployed 15 Nov at 36 05.4 N, 60 10.2 W in 4894 m of water. Deployment of the mooring, which includes a near-surface ADCP, moored profiler, RAFOS sound source, and nitrate sensor, went very smoothly in glassy calm conditions under the direction of John Kemp. A full-depth CTD cast was performed near the mooring site to confirm the accuracy of the Matthew's Tables used for correction of acoustic soundings. A total of 8 CTD stations have been occupied, more than half to a depth of 3000 m to test acoustic releases. Four APEX floats, two Bobbers, and two surface drifters have been deployed thus far. An identical mooring ("Ca") will be deployed tonight (16 Nov) near 38 30 N, 56 W. This will be followed by a CTD cast and a suite of float and drifter deployments. Tomorrow we turn south for mooring "B" at 34 N. Dave Fratantoni Bob Weller
